Laser Vaporesection

Laser vaporesection means that pieces of tissue are carved away using laser vaporization. The tissue fragments are removed from the fluid-filled surgical field through the cystoscope sometimes with the aid of a morcellator which cuts the pieces up into sizes that can be drawn out through a channel that runs through the cystoscope. This technique is generally faster than either laser ablation or laser vaporization and also has the advantage of providing tissue samples for pathological evaluation. A sub-category of laser vaporesection is laser enucleation which involves the excision of the prostatic lobes intact and then removing them with the aid of a morcellator or by vaporizing the pieces with the laser into sizes small enough for removal throught the cystoscope.
